Our kit gives you the option to make either a ‘toe ring’ sandal or a ‘two-strap’ sandal. These classic styles are great for beginners, and after you make your first pair you will have the skills to create more complicated designs for your next pair of sandals.

Your kit will be customized: You get to choose your toe shape (round or square), your sandal size, and your foot width.

This kit will teach you how to make sandals with leather components: leather soles, leather heels, and leather uppers. Optional rubber soling is included if your sandals need more traction on the soles. The leather for the sandal ‘uppers’ (the straps & insoles) is from Horween, one of the only tanneries still operating in the US. This leather is high quality, is soft & comfortable on the feet, and will develop a rich patina over time (You can also source your own leather for your sandals! Details are included in the instructions)

Some skills you will learn:

• How to form your leather soles to have arch support

• How to cut your leather straps, insoles & midsoles

• How to assemble & fit your sandals to your feet

• How to attach a leather heel

• How to attach rubber soling

• How to use shoe glue (all-purpose cement) to securely assemble your sandals

• How to finish your sandals on a belt sander

What you will need:

• Table to work on (a kitchen table, desk, etc)

• Cutting surface - cutting mat or kitchen cutting board

• Hammer

• Pen/Pencil

• Optional: ruler, sharp scissors

How your sandals will be finished: The final step of sandal making is finishing the edges on a belt sander or grinder. You have a few options for this, which Stace will explain in the video: take them to your local cobbler, send them back to Stace for finishing, or finish them yourself (there is a sanding/finishing tutorial at the end of the instructional video)
